REVISITING FAVORITE THEMES

 

Gene Gould once wrote: "Artists are never satisfied with their paintings - that's why they make new ones. I, too, always think my next painting will be the best one."

 

           

 
Shown here are three artworks that Gene Gould seemed particularly attached to. Was that because the themes they symbolized kept generating novel and better ideas in his artistic mind?

As illustrated below, looking through later Gene Gould artworks, this concept of successive new paintings improving on a favorite theme makes perfect sense.
